The music video i have chosen for my analysis is Lilly Allen -Smile. Which was a major hit in 2008.

Narrative
The narrative structure of this video is linear. Lilly Allen position in the narrative is the participant- for example she plays the role of the girl who's boyfriend is cheating on her. She is also the narrator as she is the main artist in the song. The lyrics are also illustrative
Genre
This was Lilly Allen first ever song, so when it first came out i personally didn't know what type of genre she could relate to. But as i look deeper at the video now it is the genre of Pop. The upbeat tempo and the lighting are very normal for a pop video. However her costume i feel doesn't really link to genre as much as other female pop artist. As her dress sense is very unique in this video ( her trainerswith a prom style dress) . In some ways she has rebelled into striping off as others do.
Media language
The video doesn't use any spacial effects. And is an up tempo song. There are use of match cuts in this video. Its real time. Even though the tempo is fairly fast it still has a mellow feel to the song.
Representation
I feel this video changed how new female artist can represent themselves. She came out with her own style. The video is very light and airey but a very somewhat sad story line.
