Do's and Don'ts of advert and digipak making

In every project there has to be planning of the most obvious pointers in which to follow and which to avoid. Planning in this manner allows you to think carefully and not produce unnecessary and silly mistakes, in class we brainstorm and found various for each Do and Don’t, from a advert and digipak that had been produced purposefully wrong for us to be able to spot the mistakes. Below I will list some of them:

DO:
  • Do use appropriate amount of images hopefully to do with your artist
  • Do use appropriate font and wording
  • Do spell check before agreeing to a final copy
  • Do save your work repeatedly
  • Do insert copyright and other production labels
  • Do have a visible, clear title of your artist at least somewhere on the digipak and the advert, if that indeed is part of your plan

DO NOT:
  • Don’t use more than the right number of fonts, make sure they look good together and of course professional
  • Keep background colours to a minimum amount so what you place on top is actually still visible
  • Definitely DO NOT stretch, enlarge, crop or do anything that makes the photograph or image look anything less than normal, it’s very unprofessional and draws attention to other flaws
  •  Do not use a picture in profile or any other angle or a picture of something else completely different for your digipak as debut artists would never normally work in this way
  • Don’t place things randomly on your work, make sure they have a reason and purpose to their position and subject
